A segment is a group of customers filtered by specific characteristics. It lets you send relevant messages to the right people instead of sending the same thing to everyone.
For example, you could create a segment of "VIP customers with more than 200 points" to offer them an exclusive benefit. Or a segment of "customers inactive for more than 45 days" to send them a reactivation offer.
To create a segment, go to Email Marketing → Segments → New segment. Add the conditions you want (customer level, accumulated points, last visit date, etc.) and save it. The segment updates automatically each time you use it in a campaign.
